The Client Challenge: Increase Choice Without Reformulating
The customer already had a recognizable minoxidil product presentation. Instead of adding unnecessary formula variants, the brand wanted to give buyers two ways to purchase it: one unit in a compact retail carton and three units in a larger coordinated pack.
That sounds like a simple multiplication exercise, but a three-bottle pack is a separate finished SKU. It has its own carton dimensions, bill of materials, packing sequence, coding position, artwork file, quality checks and shipping behavior. Treating it as “three singles in a bigger box” would leave too many details uncontrolled.
A multipack can extend a successful product without creating a new formula, but only when the outer pack is engineered as its own finished product.

Step 1: Freeze the Common Product Specification
KINODIN first linked both retail configurations to the correct approved product specification. The formula code, bottle, closure, fill target, label, applicable testing requirements and finished-unit appearance needed to remain consistent wherever the same inner product was intended.
The multipack did not automatically change the concentration, directions or product classification. Any change to those elements would require separate technical and regulatory assessment. Keeping the primary unit stable allowed the development effort to focus on secondary packaging and controlled assembly.
Step 2: Build Separate Bills of Materials
Each finished SKU received a distinct bill of materials. The single pack required one filled and labelled unit plus its approved carton and any specified insert. The three-bottle version required three matched units, a larger carton and the defined internal support.
This separation protected purchasing, warehouse picking and line clearance. It also made it possible to investigate a packaging issue at the correct SKU level instead of treating every carton as interchangeable.
Step 3: Engineer the Three-Bottle Carton
Three full bottles create more weight and momentum than one. The carton and internal structure therefore had to hold the units in their intended orientation, reduce contact between components and remain practical to assemble.
Carton dimensions also affect visual presentation. Excess space can make the pack feel unfinished and allows movement; an overly tight fit can damage labels, cartons or closures during insertion. KINODIN checked the production sample as a complete system rather than approving the graphic layout in isolation.
Step 4: Align Batch and Date Coding
A three-unit pack must remain understandable after production and throughout distribution. The batch and date information on the inner units and outer carton needed to follow the approved coding plan. Where the pack contained units from one production batch, operators verified that all three belonged to the intended lot before cartoning.
The same discipline applied to artwork revisions. Old and new carton versions could not remain available at the packing station without controlled authorization. Line clearance and first-piece approval helped prevent a correct bottle from entering the wrong outer pack.
Step 5: Avoid Unsupported Duration Claims
A three-bottle configuration may support planned repeat use, but it should not automatically be called a “three-month supply.” Treatment duration depends on the approved net contents, directions, dose and destination-market label. The case therefore describes a three-bottle retail pack rather than assigning a duration that has not been confirmed.
This distinction protects both accuracy and flexibility. The brand can communicate value through quantity and convenience while keeping therapeutic statements aligned with the exact authorized product.
