A North American hair care brand asked KINODIN to help turn a hair-gummy concept into a practical private label sample. The project centered on a biotin and sea buckthorn formula direction, a red heart-shaped format, a 3 g unit weight and 60 gummies per bottle. After receiving and evaluating the samples, the customer confirmed that they were satisfied with the result.

The Customer Brief
The customer wanted a supplement format that could sit naturally beside a hair-care range while offering a more consumer-friendly experience than a conventional capsule or tablet. The brief therefore needed to connect three areas: formula direction, gummy sensory performance and retail presentation.
Instead of treating the product as “a stock gummy with a new label,” the project was organized around a complete commercial specification. This included the intended ingredients, gummy weight, shape, color, bottle count and the information that would later need to appear on the finished label.
From Concept to a Manufacturable Sample
- Define the market and product route. The destination market affects ingredient review, serving information, label structure and permitted claims. This question must be addressed before the formula is locked.
- Translate the formula idea. Biotin and sea buckthorn were selected as the central formula direction. Ingredient forms and quantities still need to be evaluated against the intended serving, regulatory route and final Supplement Facts panel.
- Build the consumer experience. The red heart shape, chew size, texture, sweetness, flavor and aftertaste were considered as one sensory system rather than separate cosmetic details.
- Confirm the unit configuration. Each gummy was specified at 3 g, with 60 gummies in each bottle. Bottle capacity must allow for actual product volume, closure fit and suitable headspace.
- Prepare and evaluate samples. Physical samples allowed the customer to review appearance, shape, chew and the overall product concept before moving toward packaging and commercial-production decisions.
Product Decisions Made During Development
| Development area | Selected direction | Why it mattered |
|---|---|---|
| Ingredient concept | Biotin and sea buckthorn | Created a clear starting point for a hair-oriented supplement concept without defining unsupported finished-product claims. |
| Gummy shape | Heart | Gave the product a distinctive beauty and wellness presentation suitable for social and retail content. |
| Appearance | Red gummy | Established an identifiable visual direction that could later be coordinated with the brand label and carton. |
| Gummy weight | 3 g each | Provided a fixed basis for bottle count, serving planning and packaging-fit evaluation. |
| Bottle count | 60 gummies | Supported a familiar retail configuration while leaving the serving directions to final formula and label review. |
| Approval method | Physical sample evaluation | Allowed the buyer to assess the actual product instead of approving only a document or rendering. |
What the Customer Evaluated
For gummy supplements, approval should go beyond color and bottle appearance. A useful sample evaluation records whether the heart shape releases cleanly, whether unit size is comfortable to chew, whether texture remains acceptable during the expected shelf-life program and whether flavor and aftertaste suit the target audience.
The North American customer reviewed the physical sample and confirmed satisfaction with the developed direction. This completed an important development milestone, but it did not replace final formula confirmation, packaging tests, label review or production quality requirements.
Checks Required Before Commercial Production
- Confirm the destination country and the responsible importer or brand owner.
- Review every dietary ingredient, source, quantity and intended daily serving.
- Finalize the Supplement Facts or other destination-market nutrition panel.
- Review allergen, warning, storage and use instructions.
- Verify that all label and advertising claims are lawful and adequately supported.
- Approve bottle, closure, seal, label artwork, lot coding and shelf-life approach.
- Define finished-product specifications and the required testing documents.
What Other Hair Care Brands Can Learn from This Project
Hair gummies can extend a topical hair-care line into beauty and wellness, but they require a different development discipline. The fastest way to prepare a workable brief is to decide the target market first, then define ingredient direction, intended consumer, serving concept, dietary preferences, flavor, shape, unit weight, bottle count and packaging position.
Brands should also separate product format from marketing claims. A visually appealing heart-shaped gummy can be developed without promising that the finished product will treat hair loss or cure a medical condition. Claims should be reviewed only after the formula, supporting evidence and destination-market route are clear.
