Consumers often use “protein overload” to describe hair that feels stiff, rough or difficult to manage after protein-rich products. The phrase is not a precise diagnosis. An undesirable feel can involve protein type and level, the complete conditioning balance, existing hair damage, repeated use, incompatible routine products or simply a formula that deposits too heavily for that user.
